Let the Sicilian summer rides begin

June 2nd—Republic Day—is a national holiday that marks the beginning of the summer season in Sicily. And as with every year, a long bike ride was well overdue.

On this day, I always make it a point to head out on a ride to celebrate the official start of the Sicilian summer. This year, I set my course westward along Sicily’s stunning north coast—a breathtaking stretch of coastline lined with beaches, secluded coves, crystal-clear lagoons, charming fishing villages, and panoramic views that never get old.

Along the way, it's common to encounter fellow cyclists and beachgoers alike. Once you leave the city behind, the coastal roads open up into a cyclist’s dream: gently winding paths, minimal traffic, and sun-soaked vistas at every turn. It’s nearly impossible not to stop—to snap a photo, grab a quick espresso at a seaside café, or simply soak in the beauty. And with every pause, the call to keep pedaling until sunset grows stronger.

Rides like this remind me why cycling in Sicily is a one-of-a-kind experience—something most can only dream of, and something that has become an essential part of my lifestyle.

So take a look through the snapshots from my ride—and if you’ve ever dreamed of cycling through golden coastlines and sunlit hills, consider this your sign. Sicily is waiting, and the road is calling. I hope to see you out there on the next ride.
