Guiding an Unforgettable Cycling Adventure

Cycling through Western Sicily is always a thrill—but guiding an incredible group of Canadians on this journey made it all the more special.

Once again, I had the privilege of collaborating with Sicicla, one of Sicily’s premier cycling tour operators, taking the lead as guide for a weeklong ride through some of the island’s most breathtaking and lesser-known corners.

Cycling has become more than a passion for me—it's a lifestyle. And with that lifestyle comes a deep desire to share the beauty of my homeland with others. Working as a guide allows me to do exactly that: help fellow travelers fall in love with Sicily’s landscapes, culture, and rhythm, all from the saddle of a bike.

And this tour didn’t disappoint.

We hiked the rugged trails of the Riserva dello Zingaro, rode through magical inland landscapes, and tackled a few challenging climbs on Erice that tested our legs and lifted our spirits. We ferried our bikes across turquoise waters to the windswept island of Favignana, cruised past the gleaming salt flats of Marsala, and pushed ourselves to the limit on an 80km ride along the southwestern coast, finishing at the ancient Greek ruins of Selinunte.

Of course, every adventure comes with its challenges—punctured tires, a misplaced passport, and a few on-the-fly route changes. But those moments only added to the experience. We faced them together, and we finished stronger for it.

I’m thrilled to share some of the images from this trip, and I hope they inspire you to consider your own cycling adventure. When I first launched Beyond the Peloton, it was with stories like this in mind—stories where cycling isn’t just a sport, but a force that turns strangers into teammates, then into friends, and eventually into a family.

Sicily and cycling are fast becoming synonymous with adventure travel. So why not join me on the next journey?

Whether you're a seasoned cyclist or just curious about exploring the world on two wheels, Western Sicily offers a perfect blend of challenge, beauty, and culture. This trip reminded me once again why I do what I do: because each tour is more than just kilometers and climbs—it’s about the people, the stories, and the moments that stay with us long after the ride is over. So, if you're ready to turn your pedals into purpose and your curiosity into connection, the road is waiting.
